Already one of the best PC optimizers, the CCleaner VPN service is now safer and up to 35% faster.
Kamo, an anti-tracking and online privacy tool, just added WireGuard as the default protocol to its private connection mode.
This feature, based on VPN technology, creates a secure and encrypted tunnel between users’ Windows PCs and the Internet.
Safe and enhanced browsing
“Adding WireGard to the private connection feature will improve users’ online privacy and reduce tracking and access restrictions, while increasing the browsing speed and experience,” said Sandro Villinger, head of product strategy at CCleaner.
The VPN protocol is a set of instructions that govern both how data is encrypted and how that information is moved between servers and devices. This means that it can greatly affect the speed and security of your connection.
A relatively new entry in the world of security software, WireGuard is known for its much simpler code base. A leaner protocol translates into higher speeds and better control over its weak points. For example, it reduces loading times while reducing the attack surface that cybercriminals can exploit.
“It will help people take more ownership and control over their digital lives so they can enjoy a freer and fairer internet,” said Villinger.
Recent tests showed that connections ran 35% faster when WireGuard was used instead.
Kamo, part of CCleaner’s privacy suite, was launched in 2020 to provide users with better privacy by tackling increasingly complex web tracking techniques.
Its VPN mode, called private connection, hides both the real location of people and the IP address of the computer. This provides a way to browse the web safely while preventing nosy ISPs and/or malicious entities from spying on users’ online activities.
“After wiping and speeding up devices, we wanted to equip people with additional privacy-focused features that would allow them to navigate the online world without worrying about what data is being shared with companies or individuals and what they can in turn do with it,” explained Villinger.
With a network of 58 servers in 36 locations, Kamo Private Connection is currently only available for Windows PCs (7,8,10 and 11, except Windows in S mode and Windows running on ARM).
